Pause....
Pause. Breathe. Rest. Reset. Go again.
Our cars need regular maintenance.
Our phones need software updates.
The Instagram app needs updating every other day.
That elevator or train or plane or bus that you utilized? It needs regular servicing.
Our pets need to go to the vet on a regular basis. Not because something is wrong, but because we may not be trained as veterinarians. (I’m sure some of you are!)
Pausing may not be simple for you. It certainly isn’t simple for me. As a person living with a chronic illness, part of me wants to go, go, go, all the time. To make up for deficits that feel obvious to me, and are likely not obvious to anyone else. And are maybe not deficits at all. Pause. Not deficits. Challenges. And challenges that I am more prepared to manage because I rest.
It is okay to rest. It is okay to pause. It is okay to slow down. It is okay to not do everything on full blast, all the time.
In fact, going, going, going, going, going, is a really great way to sputter to a stop. And of course, stopping is all right, but stopping because you are literally out of juice? Not my preference.
Pause for regular maintenance. Because you don’t question that your phone requires updates or the way you travel requires maintenance or that your furry friends require care.
Because you deserve to pause.
Because you’ll be in a better position when you press start, again.
Rest. Don’t quit.
How do you like to reset? What are the self-care practices that keep you operating most successfully?
